Terms and Conditions

1. Contest Overview
The "Echoes of the Archipelago: Innovation and Insight Prize" (the “Contest”) is a privately funded competition that encourages undergraduate and graduate students to submit original academic or creative work related to the history, culture, and society of the Japanese archipelago. By entering the Contest, participants agree to the terms and conditions outlined below.

2. Eligibility

  • The Contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at accredited institutions.

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Entries must be the original work of the entrant(s) and must not have been previously published or submitted to any other contest or award.

  • Multiple entries are allowed, but each submission must be entered separately.

3. Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions must be received by December 21, 2024 at 11:59 PM (local time).

  • Categories for submission include:

    • Research Papers (2,000 to 10,000 words)

    • Innovative Projects (concise, well-documented proposals)

    • Multimedia Presentations (documentaries, digital exhibits, interactive content)

  • Entries must include a cover page with the participant's name, contact information, the title of the work, and an abstract (for research papers).

  • All entries must be submitted electronically via the Contest website in the specified format (e.g., PDF for papers, video files for multimedia).

4. Intellectual Property

  • Entrants retain full ownership of the intellectual property rights to their submission.

  • By submitting an entry, participants grant the Contest organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and promote the work for purposes related to the Contest (e.g., for showcasing on the Contest website or in related publications).

  • No work will be used for commercial purposes without the explicit consent of the entrant.

5. Judging Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Originality: Novel insights or approaches to the subject matter.

  • Research Depth: The rigor and thoroughness of the research or project.

  • Relevance: The submission's connection to contemporary issues in Japanese history, culture, or society.

  • Presentation: The clarity and creativity of how the work is communicated.

6. Prizes

  • Grand Prize: $300

  • Second and Third Prizes: $50 each

  • Honorable Mentions: Certificates of recognition

  • Winners will be notified via email and announced in January 2025. The decisions of the judges are final and non-negotiable.

7. Disqualification
Submissions will be disqualified if they:

  • Contain plagiarized material.

  • Fail to meet the eligibility or submission guidelines.

  • Promote violence, hate speech, or offensive content.

8. Limitation of Liability
The Contest organizers are not responsible for:

  • Late, lost, misdirected, or incomplete submissions due to technical errors.

  • Any disputes regarding the ownership or originality of submitted work.

9. Privacy Policy
All personal information collected will be used solely for the administration of the Contest and will not be shared with third parties without consent. The data will be protected in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

10. Withdrawal from Contest
Participants may withdraw their submissions from the Contest by contacting the organizers at InCredibleDiscourse@gmail.com. Withdrawal requests must be made before the submission deadline.

11. Amendments
The Contest organizers reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be communicated on the Contest website.

By submitting an entry, participants agree to comply with all the above terms and conditions.
