ABOUT ME

Hello!
I'm Sean O'Connor

Hello, my name is Sean, I am the founder of In Credible Discourse (ICD) and the many previous iterations of ICD that I have experimented with since 2017. My interest and relationship with Japan began when I was very young. My grandfather lived in Japan for a short period and it was through his experiences that I initially came to know that Japan even existed. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a Japanese language school in Shinkuju, Tokyo when I was an undergrad and even more fortunate to be selected for the JET Programme where I lived in rural Southern Nagano Prefecture for 2 Years with my wife.

My educational background is in anthropology and religious studies. During my undergraduate I conducted ethnographic work in North Jersey and Manhattan, spending time with a Pureland Buddhist Church and the Unificationist Church. I attended graduate school for archaeology at UCD Dublin, Ireland where I studied experimental archaeology.

I myself am a practicing Theravada Buddhist and actively strive to keep The Five Precepts. This is also why you’ll see so many pictures of monks around the site. I am an ex-Kendo teacher, ex-Bow Hunter, and casual MTG player.
